My first British title defense was
announced at the Derek Chisora v Tyson Fury press conference by Mick
Hennessey on Tuesday, and this is great news for me as now I can
step my training up and go to my training camp in New York City for
a month , and work with my US trainers Harry Keit and Jihad Abdul-Aziz.
Harry Keit has been in all my big
US fights against DeMarcus Corley, Delvin Rodriguez and Danny Garcia
and it was a great boost to get him flown over for my British Title
win over Lenny Daws. I can box on the outside
and fight on the inside when need be.
Jihad and Harry have added to my
fighting style and I have trust in them when we are in the corner,
which you need to have as a fighter. If you can’t trust your
trainer’s eyes then it is all on you and you cannot see everything
whilst fighting your opponent. Your trainer may see elements from
outside the ring that you can’t whilst in the thick of the battle.
So I am now beginning my month-long
training stint at Gleason’s gym in Brooklyn throughout June and
will get some world class sparring and training before coming back
to the UK and finishing off with my UK team.....more

Management fighter Ashley Theophane (29-4-1, 7 KOs) is fresh off his
points win over Lenny Daws this past Saturday where he lifted the
British title. Upon reading the recent comments by Unbeaten Frankie
Gavin a brief statement was released on behalf of Theophane through
his management (CESTUS). " Frankie Gavin is definitely a very
skilled fighter and comes with a lot of credentials from his highly
decorated amateur career. However, he and Ashley Theophone are at
different stages of their careers right now. Where Gavin is a
promising prospect and Theophane is a legitimate world ranked
contender. Our company's immediate goals are set on a world title
fight or a fight that will set up a world title fight.
Gavin
wants Theophane next
Unbeaten
Frankie Gavin has warned new British light-welterweight champion
Ashley Theophane that his reign will be a short one. Gavin stopped
late sub Michael Lomax in seven rounds at Bethnal Green’s York
Hall on Saturday, while Theophane lifted the British title with a
points win over Lenny Daws at Wembley on the same night. And now
Gavin is demanding a shot at Theophane – and says he’ll knock
him out if he’s given one. “It doesn’t really matter who holds
that British title, I feel I am ready for anyone,” said the 2007
Amateur World Champion. “Congratulations to Theophane because he
beat a good fighter in Daws to win that Lonsdale belt, but what
would I have done to Daws. Theophane’s now got something that I
want, and I am going to be coming after him big time to get it.
I’ve seen his fights and he’s a class act. But I’ll beat him
hands down if he step up to the plate and faces me. Hopefully my
promoter Frank Warren can get me a British title fight within the
next few months.”
Ashley Theophane
beats Lenny Daws to take British Title!
Lenny Daws lost his
British title tonight against boxing's rolling stone, Ashley
Theophane. Daws took control of the action in Wembley tonight for
the first half of the fight. Using his exceptional work rate and
underestimated speed, Daws puzzled and outworked Theophane for large
spells. But Theophane timed his shots with increasing accuracy until
a landslide ninth round which saw him floor Daws heavily and look to
be on verge of winning by stoppage, but the fitness and conditioning
of the former champion saw him wobble to his feet and continue.
Theophane stalked Daws before flooring him again at the end of the
round, before the bell effectively saved him.

The remaining rounds
saw the bloody and swollen Daws look vulnerable as the more
methodical Ashley looked to finish the fight early. More tense
moments came as Ashley shook Daws with body shots and looping right
hands before the final bell. Daws looked forlorn as the unanimous
scorecards of 112-115,111-115 and 111-115 were called out, all in
the challenger's favor....more

“I won an eliminator back in 2007 against
Alan Bosworth for the British title so I have been waiting for my
title shot for 3 years now, this is as important as any fight
I’ve had so I will be preparing as hard as I do for all my
fights” said Theophane. Theophane
who boasts wins over former world champion Demarcus Corley and
then world number three Delvin Rodriguez believes that he is past
domestic level and a world title shot will be on the cards soon.
“My main focus is a World Title shot which will come one day but
I feel that I have now past domestic level and my fight against
Lenny will be a “keep busy” fight until a bigger fight comes
along.”....more

Theophane,
the bane of Garcia, gets robbed in Texas!
In the co-main event, finding
himself in deep waters with Ashley Theophane, from across the Big
Pond, Danny Garcia of Philadelphia eked and squeaked by to win a
ten-round split decision. The U.S.-debuting Theophane was a lateral
move in opposition – but extending himself in his first distance
fight at ten rounds nearly proved Garcia’s undoing.

While Garcia stalked his prey in
the first, Theophane found a target for his single-thrown rights and
left hooks. In the second, Garcia closed the distance, landing
rights up and downstairs. The third was somewhat even, Theophane
landing overhand rights at range while Garcia worked his jab. Garcia
started to land with consistency in the fourth, then mixed it up
with body shots in the fifth. In round six, Theophane, not quite
fading, was presenting a stern test for Garcia. Though landing
overhand rights, Theophane showed he could take Garcia’s rights
and occasional left uppercuts....click
