Ashley Theophane wants Timothy Bradley and Victor Ortiz
But he tells Ben Jacobs he's focused on Jason Cook
NOT AGAIN: Theophane is surprised Daws (right) didn't want a rematch
British light-welterweight champion Ashley Theophane defends
his title this Saturday at Wembley Arena against Welshman Jason Cook. I
stopped by Theophane’s gym in north-west London last Saturday for a sit down
interview with the 30-year old and we discussed his upcoming fight, his
training and possible future opponents among other subjects.
Is Saturday a slightly calmer day for you?
Yeah, today I come and do the “KO”
class at All Stars Boxing club, it’s like a circuit class but working on the
basics and stuff and it lasts for two hours with a circuit at the end and a
nice warm up, so I do my sprints in the morning at Paddington Rec, I keep it
local on the weekend. Monday to Friday is when I do all my hard work and the
weekends we keep it easy.
Now when did you get back from America?
I got back a week ago, last Friday, I
did the majority of my hard work in America, quality stuff was done, now
it’s just keeping it going for the next two weeks and the week of the fight
will just be easy.
Could you talk about your time in America, how was the
training? Who did you spar with?
I
sparred with Frankie Figueroa, he used to be world number four, he fought in a
world title eliminator against Randall Bailey. It was a war and he didn’t
get the result he would have hoped for but he’s coming back in October. He
gave me some quality rounds. I sparred with Martin Wright who is the New York
state champ, he’s a quality fighter. I was able to work on my defense and
tactical stuff with the lighter guys. I sparred around eight guys at 10
rounds, then I did pads with my two trainers there, Abdul Haziz and Harry Keit
who’s going to be flying over to do my corner so it was a month there but
quality. I had one day off in a month so it was full blast.....click

Theophane on 'Big Brawl'
card!!
Londoner faces Welsh champion on Chisora
V Fury undercard at Wembley Arena!
Trans-Atlantic boxer Ashley Theophane
is to fight on 'The Big Brawl' card on July 23 to defend his British
light-welterweight title.
Theophane
will go toe-to-toe with Welsh champion Jason Cook at Wembley Arena on the same
card that sees Dereck Chisora's return against Tyson Fury, who at 14-0 holds
an identical record to the British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion.Londoner Theophane has successfully
split his training between his home-town and adopted city, New York, a
decision that was inspired by his idols.
"I watched (Mike) Tyson and (Marvin) Hagler and wanted
to come to America to train and fight. For my 11th fight I came to Gleason's
Gym (in NYC) to see if I was good enough. "I
held my own and gained confidence sparring Pauli Malignaggi, Chris Smith and
Elio Rojas. I've kept coming back to New York City and also gained good
experience working with (Yuri) Foreman and (Dmitriy) Salita. I only sparred
with Paulie once, but I watched him go on to big fights against (Ricky) Hatton
and (Amir) Khan. I would like to get to fight big names like that....click

My first British title defense was announced
at the Derek Chisora v Tyson Fury press conference by Mick Hennessey on
Tuesday, and this is great news for me as now I can step my training up and go
to my training camp in New York City for a month , and work with my US
trainers Harry Keit and Jihad Abdul-Aziz.
Harry Keit has been in all my big US fights
against DeMarcus Corley, Delvin Rodriguez and Danny Garcia and it was a great
boost to get him flown over for my British Title win over Lenny Daws. I
can box on the outside and fight on the inside when need be.
Jihad and Harry have added to my fighting
style and I have trust in them when we are in the corner, which you need to
have as a fighter. If you can’t trust your trainer’s eyes then it is all
on you and you cannot see everything whilst fighting your opponent. Your
trainer may see elements from outside the ring that you can’t whilst in the
thick of the battle.
So I am now beginning my month-long training
stint at Gleason’s gym in Brooklyn throughout June and will get some world
class sparring and training before coming back to the UK and finishing off
with my UK team.....more

GEORGE KEEPS ADVANCING AT SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT: Wins IBF/USBA Title
Photos by: Tom Barnes - Don George TKO8
Maxell Taylor... Last Friday in Chicago, super
middleweight Don "Da Bomb" George dismantled Maxell
"General" Taylor. George came out for the eighth round and caught
Taylor with a three-punch combination to the head followed by a right to
the chin that dropped Taylor for the first time in his career. Taylor got up
at the count of eight but was still hurt. The end came in 2:05 of the
round as George pinned Taylor on the ropes, where he rained unanswered shots
to the head and body promoting referee Gino Rodriguez to stop the bout,
awarding the fight, plus the regional title at stake, to George.
An ecstatic Donovan had this to say right after his victory, "This is a
great feeling for me and I'm so happy that I have fulfilled one of my
goals tonight. Winning this [regional] title is an awesome thing
for me and my team, as everyone has worked really hard for me to get here.
Taylor was a real tough guy that knows how to box, but I was the better
fighter and i showed that tonight. This was a fantastic night and this win
will always be special".
Gina Iacovou, George's manager (Cestus CEO) said, "Donovan looked
sensational and I'm very proud of his performance here tonight.... after
tonight we are one step closer to fighting for a world title".
Mike Michael (Cestus Chief Adviser) said, "Donovan beat a very tough,
determined and very capable opponent. Donovan's performance tonight was
electrifying and the way that he beat Taylor showed that he has matured and
belongs at the world class level in boxing".....more

Management fighter Ashley Theophane (29-4-1, 7 KOs) is fresh off his points
win over Lenny Daws this past Saturday where he lifted the British title. Upon
reading the recent comments by Unbeaten Frankie Gavin a brief statement was
released on behalf of Theophane through his management (CESTUS). "
Frankie Gavin is definitely a very skilled fighter and comes with a lot of
credentials from his highly decorated amateur career. However, he and Ashley
Theophone are at different stages of their careers right now. Where Gavin is a
promising prospect and Theophane is a legitimate world ranked contender. Our
company's immediate goals are set on a world title fight or a fight that will
set up a world title fight.
Gavin
wants Theophane next
Unbeaten
Frankie Gavin has warned new British light-welterweight champion Ashley
Theophane that his reign will be a short one. Gavin stopped late sub Michael
Lomax in seven rounds at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on Saturday, while Theophane
lifted the British title with a points win over Lenny Daws at Wembley on the
same night. And now Gavin is demanding a shot at Theophane – and says
he’ll knock him out if he’s given one. “It doesn’t really matter who
holds that British title, I feel I am ready for anyone,” said the 2007
Amateur World Champion. “Congratulations to Theophane because he beat a good
fighter in Daws to win that Lonsdale belt, but what would I have done to Daws.
Theophane’s now got something that I want, and I am going to be coming after
him big time to get it. I’ve seen his fights and he’s a class act. But
I’ll beat him hands down if he step up to the plate and faces me. Hopefully
my promoter Frank Warren can get me a British title fight within the next few
months.”
Ashley Theophane
beats Lenny Daws to take British Title!
Lenny Daws lost his British
title tonight against boxing's rolling stone, Ashley Theophane. Daws took
control of the action in Wembley tonight for the first half of the fight.
Using his exceptional work rate and underestimated speed, Daws puzzled and
outworked Theophane for large spells. But Theophane timed his shots with
increasing accuracy until a landslide ninth round which saw him floor Daws
heavily and look to be on verge of winning by stoppage, but the fitness and
conditioning of the former champion saw him wobble to his feet and continue.
Theophane stalked Daws before flooring him again at the end of the round,
before the bell effectively saved him.

The remaining rounds saw the
bloody and swollen Daws look vulnerable as the more methodical Ashley looked
to finish the fight early. More tense moments came as Ashley shook Daws with
body shots and looping right hands before the final bell. Daws looked forlorn
as the unanimous scorecards of 112-115,111-115 and 111-115 were called out,
all in the challenger's favor....more

"Da Bomb" blasts out "Da
Beast" in one round!
In the co-feature, Don “Da Bomb” George (21-1-1,
18 KOs) rebounded from the only loss of his career with an impressive first
round stoppage of the formerly undefeated knockout artist Cornelius “Da
Beast” White (16-1, 15 KOs) in their scheduled eight round middleweight
contest.

The bout was expected to be a well anticipated slug
fest as heavy handed super middleweight Don “Da Bomb” George set out to
wage war over eight rounds with undefeated knockout artist Cornelius “The
Beast” White. George, who looked to rebound from his only loss of his career
in his unsuccessful NABO title challenge against Francisco Sierra, and had
faced the tougher opposition. George owned seventeen knockouts in his 22 fight
career for an impressive knockout percentage of 77%. The undefeated and heavy
handed Cornelius White, appropriately nicknamed The Beast came into this fight
with an even more unbelievable knockout percentage of 94%, having stopped 15
of his 16 opponents inside the distance. In his last bout, he needed only one
round to finish the always game Demetrius Davis. So a war was expected from
the opening bell....more

"Da Beast" White February 11th - Live on ShoBox!
The scheduled eight-round co-feature pits two of
the biggest punching prospects in the deep super middleweight division
boasting some of the highest percentages of knockouts among active boxers with
at least 15 fights – Cornelius “Da Beast” White versus Don “Da Bomb”
George.
The 29-year old White (16-0, 15 KOs) is a native of
Houston, Texas and has knocked out 94 percent of his opponents to date.
Recently signed to a promotional deal by Goossen Tutor and TNT Productions,
“Da Beast” stopped Demetrius Davis in the first round in his most recent
outing last month. Chicago’s George (20-1-1, 17
KOs), on the other hand, has stopped 77 percent of his opposition, with
knockouts accounting for 85 percent of his victories. In his last bout in
July, George sustained an upset loss, his first, by technical decision to
Francisco Sierra in a battle for the vacant WBO NABO Super Middleweight title.
Prior to that, George won a barnburner over Osumanu Adama via 8-round
unanimous decision on ShoBox. “Besides
having a world-class solid boxing event for the SHOWTIME viewers, it’s
always exciting bringing events like this to the East Coast fans especially at
Bally’s Atlantic City,” promoter Dan Goossen exclaimed. “Rico Ramos
continues to take on all comers and Valdez is certainly another barometer to
where Rico stands with the best in the division. His willingness to fight
anyone combined with his lighting hand and foot speed will make Ramos a fan
favorite if he keeps improving the way he has.”....more

Bradley
vs Alexander Heading to Detroit, Says Shaw!!!!
You might that think that economically depressed Motown is no town to host
a major boxing event. Evidently, Big Gary Shaw and Don King, the Oddfellas
co-promoters behind the Devon Alexander-Timothy Bradley junior welterweight
unification bout set for Jan. 29, don't share the widespread pessimism about
the Greater Detroit market. Obviously, had a Las Vegas or Atlantic City
casino-hotel stepped forward with an enticing bid, the stimulating matchup
between the undefeated St. Louis boxer and the unbeaten fighter from the Palm
Springs area would have been held within the ring-a-ding sound of slot
machines.

Alexander, age 23, owns a 21-0, 13 knockouts pro record and is known as
"Alexander The Great" while "Desert Storm" Bradley, age
27, is also perfect at 26-0 with 11 KOs to his credit. The WBC and WBO 140
pound belts will be on the line. Instead, Shaw confirmed to me moments ago,
press conferences are being planned for Detroit on Tuesday and New York City
on Wednesday with the site being the Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich. The huge
stadium will be set up for a 15,000 seating capacity....more

Boxing: Ashley "Treasure" Theophane ready for best at 140 and
147!!
Cestus
Management’s 140-to-147 pound world contender Ashley Theophane scored an
impressive decision victory over IBF number 3 ranked welterweight Delvin
Rodriguez. Theophane displayed superb boxing skills as he constantly kept
Rodriguez off balance by stepping around the Dominican’s offense and landing
sharp combination’s to clearly win a close action packed fight. Rodriguez,
who is a former 3 time world title challenger, worked hard but in the end,
Theophane just proved to be the better fighter. The fight was the main event
and took place at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma and was televised
live on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.

The
“Tresure” had this to say right after the fight; I’ll fight any top
fighter in the world, I’m ready for any of them. I finally found myself and
anyone who wants to step up and fight lets do it tomorrow. I “hit Delvin
(Rodriguez) with some real hard shots and he still kept coming and never quit.
I was ready to do anything to win this fight and I did. Me and my team
(CESTUS) worked too hard for this and I knew I couldn’t let anyone of them
down. This win is special and i can’t explain how good I feel inside. I
promise whoever wants to listen that there is a lot more to come from me in
the future. Like I said I’ll fight any top fighter in the world. I want a
shot at a world title.”.....more

Fighter Ashley "Treasure" Theophane: "Beats IBF #3 Delvin
Rodriguez on ESPN's FNF July 31st"
Joe
DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Warriors Boxing presented an action-packed seven
bout card before a jam packed house at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK.
The show, broadcast live on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” was headlined
by IBF #3 rated welterweight contender, Delvin Rodriguez taking on England’s
Ashley Theophane, in a ten round welterweight contest.
Both fighters came out and immediately began firing shots, setting the pace
right from the get go. The taller Rodriguez was the more accurate of the two,
with Theophane looking to land looping shots over Rodriguez’s stiff jab.
Photo:
Bart Montgomery/Cestus Management
Each round saw good two-way action from both fighters,
but as the fight progressed, Rodriguez continuously scored the more telling
shots, mixing in some vicious body shots behind his lethal straight right
hand. There was great action in the 7th, with
both fighters going toe-to-toe to close the round. Early
in the 9th a huge overhand right by Rodriguez hurt Theophane badly. Rodriguez
went right at Theophane, looking to close to the show, but Theophane was able
to stay out of trouble by tying Rodriguez up and jumping on his bicycle for
the remainder of the round.....more

Fighter Don "Da'Bomb" George: "Ready For ESPN July 31st
By: Cestus Press
After weeks of preparation in Lake
Arrowhead to fight Curtis
Stevens, Cestus Management's super
middleweight contender Donovan George recently learned that Stevens
has inexplicably pulled out of their July 30, 2010, ESPN FNF match at the Buffalo
Run Casino in
Miami
Oklahoma
. It was disappointing news as George was looking to destroy Stevens
and cement his mark as a true contender in the 168-pound division.
Still, when one door closes another
opportunity usually appears as George will now be facing Mexican banger
Francisco "Panchito" Sierra who has an impressive record which
includes 21 victories with 20 big wins by knockout. Sierra's hit list
includes former world champion Jose Luis Lopez who retired on his stool
after being brutalized for 6 rounds. This is an opponent George is not
taking lightly.
"Out
with Stevens and all I got is Sierra on my mind!" said Donovan George
from his training camp in
Lake
Arrowhead
. George added, "I don't understand why Curtis (Stevens) couldn't
make the fight but that doesn't matter now as I've got (Francisco) Sierra to
deal with. I'm ready and I will give the fans at the Buffalo Run Casino (Miami
, Oklahoma) a great show as I'm going to take Sierra out!"
Mike Michael, who is Cestus Management's Chief advisor, said, "We were
looking forward to facing Curtis Stevens and its a shame that he pulled out
of the fight, as Donovan was ready to put on a show and win big. Still, we
now have Francisco Sierra to deal with and Donovan is ready to take care of
business." Michael added, "I just want to thank the Buffalo
Run Casino, our promoters, ESPN
for this great opportunity and to
my good friend, Jimmy "Zeek" Hartofilis, for continued
support. So Lock the doors and run for cover; because "DA
BOMB" is ready to explode and Sierra is his target.
